In honor of Father’s Day, I thought I would take a few moments this weekend to say “thank you” to my father, the greatest daddy a little girl could ever have. My dad has been my “hero” since that first day I looked into his reassuring eyes…I knew instantly that I could count on him forever, and that he would never let me down…and he never has.
I am not exaggerating when I say that my daddy is one of the sweetest, most generous people you will EVER meet, and that I wanted to be just like him for as long as I can remember… particularly in regards to how patient and easy-going he always seems to be, no matter what (it takes a LOT to get my dad upset in ANY way…wow, what must that be like???). I have done my best over the years to learn from him as he seems to take everything in stride…I’m getting better, but I admit that I still have a ways to go. So I will keep watching…keep learning.
In addition, my father’s strong work ethic and keen attention to detail and quality have inspired me through the years to always do my absolute BEST at whatever I take on. His example has taught me that anything worth doing, is worth doing well.
And TOGETHER we have learned that it is also okay not to be good at everything. That some things are fun to do “just for the heck of it” – that it’s okay not to be “perfect” all the time (although we’re BOTH still working on this one…).
I found this “Father’s Day” poem a few years ago…it pretty much says it all:
WHAT IS A DAD?
A dad is someone who wants to catch you before you fall,
but instead picks you up, brushes you off, and lets you try again.A dad is someone who wants to keep you from making mistakes,
but instead lets you find your own way, even though his heart
breaks in silence when you get hurt.A dad is someone who holds you when you cry,
scolds you when you break the rules,
shines with pride when you succeed,
and has faith in you, even when you fail…
Thank you, dad, for always being there for me, for believing in me, and for being proud of me no matter what. I love you so much…
Love, “Tiny”
